Carlos Meglia passes away

Argentinian comic book artist Carlos Meglia has died. He was 50 years old. According to initial reports, he was admitted to hospital after suffering from problems related to his aorta.
Carlos Meglia debuted in 1974 as the assistant of the illustrator Oswal. Two years later, he made science-fiction illustrations for El Péndulo, as well as covers for Record publishers. In 1979 Meglia illustated 'La Bible pour les Enfants', 'Don Quichotte' and several books of the poet Martin Fierro. In the early 1980s, he contributed to Billiken, a children's magazine, Satiricón, a humorous periodical and El Gráfico, a sports magazine.

In 1983, Meglia made his first short comic stories for publisher Record, and in the three years that followed, he worked mainly in the animation field (a.o. on 'The Smurfs', 'The Flintstones' and 'Scooby Doo'). He teamed up with Carlos Trillo in 1987, and started 'Irish Coffee', a series about a detective with supernatural gifts. Also with Trillo, Meglia launched the 'Cybersix' series in 1991, a series in which he intensively uses the computer. In the second half of the 1990s, he settled in Spain and began working for the US market. He cooperated on Dark Horse titles like 'Star Wars: Underworld' and 'Spyboy', as well as DC's 'Superman/Tarzan: Sons of the Jungle', 'Crimson', 'Adventures of Superman' and 'Monster World', and Marvel's 'Elektra'.

He was perhaps best known to Spanish-speaking audiences for his collaborations with Carlos Trillo, with whom he created Irish Coffee and Cybersix. With Crisse, he created "Canari" series in 2005.

Acama Studio and ultimate brake

Kit Kat (Nestle') France & JWT have come up with an exquisite
3D-effect digital marketing campaign that is tied in to their 'Ultimate
Break/Win a Trip in Space' campaign. Not only is the execution of this
computer animated short by Akama Studio wonderful, but so is the timing.

A
stressed stockbroker executive facing heavy losses...see any connection
to the (in)famous trader at French bank Societe General who managed to
accumulate trading losses of 7 billion dollars only last week?

The campaign
call-to-action is for consumers to access the promotional website or to
SMS a code via their mobile handset. What is a little surprising for
such a brilliant campaign is that no mobile application or mobile site was built to go with it. This shows
that despite the inroads mobile advertising is making in general, big
brands are still reticent to capitalize reaching out to consumers
through this channel.

Advertising Agency: JWT Paris, France
